As one of two Red Bull owned Formula 1 teams, Scuderia Toro Rosso is one of the sport’s most exciting and fastest growing teams. The team made its racing debut in 2006 leading to its first Formula 1 victory in 2008 in Monza, Italy, before moving to complete independence from its sister team Aston Martin Red Bull Racing in 2010. In 2018, Scuderia Toro Rosso entered into partnership with Honda and now counts more than 500 talented and highly passionate people. They currently lie 5th in the Constructor’s Championship.

One of the most dynamic and forward-thinking teams in Formula 1, Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 Team is famous for developing world class drivers, and the team recently signed young Thai talent Alexander Albon. With an impressive junior career, Alexander is one of Thailand’s most promising racing stars and the only Thai national currently competing in Formula 1. He is also the second Thai ever to have competed in Formula 1, after Prince Bira’s success in the 1950s.

Born in London to Thai and British parents, Alexander entered into the world of motorsports at the age of eight. In 2010, he won the World Championship in Karting, a title also held by racing legends Lewis Hamilton and former Toro Rosso driver, Sebastian Vettel. For the past two seasons, Alexander has raced in Formula 2, first with ART Grand Prix and then with DAMS, finishing third in 2018 with four wins, three pole positions and four more podium finishes.

Scuderia Toro Rosso F1 Team has already secured two high profile Thai sponsors this year, Moose Craft Cider and PTT Oil and Retail Business. Jiraphon Kawswat, President and Chief Executive of PTT Oil and Retail Business, said the sponsorship was aimed at allowing Alexander to show off his skills on the world stage and put Thailand back on the global Formula 1 map.

Formula 1 is the pinnacle of motorsports and enjoys one of the highest levels of brand recognition of any sport. It is the most popular annual sporting series, even outnumbering the Champions League, according to a CIE/CSM Global Sports Fan survey from 2017. According to Nielsen Sports, Formula 1 reaches a cumulative 1.8 billion people TV audience via more than 100 broadcast partners in over 200 territories. The addition of Alexander to the Scuderia Toro Rosso team comes at a time when motorsports are experiencing exponential growth in Thailand and wider Asia and represents a fantastic opportunity for brands wishing to engage with the huge F1 audience.
